March 8th: A Reflection on Strength, Choice, and Gratitude

As International Women’s Day arrives as scheduled, I ask myself: What is the true meaning of this day?

From our grandmothers’ generation, to our mothers’, to our own, and on to the next—each generation of women interprets resilience, tenderness, and strength through their own lives.

Gifts and consumption have never been the centerpiece of this day.

The true essence of the celebration is that every woman can live her life on her own terms:

She may be gentle, or she may be powerful;

She may choose to marry and start a family, or walk her own path alone;

She may live an ordinary life, or shine with extraordinary brilliance.

A woman’s independence is never about rejecting marriage or motherhood.

It is about having the confidence to choose—to dare to love, to dare to take responsibility, and to dare to be accountable for herself.

The most complete version of life is, after all, about having the courage to experience it fully and never betray oneself.

Five thousand years of Chinese culture have given us our roots and soul.

I recall Nixon’s “1999: Victory Without War.” The content has long grown hazy in my memory, but one conviction remains unwavering:

No matter how great the influence of the West, and though the former Soviet Union may have been “defeated without war,” China never will be.

The more turbulent the world becomes, the more I understand:

It is precisely the strength of our motherland that shields us, ensuring our stability and peaceful lives. To be born Chinese is, truly, a profound blessing.

To all women:

May you remain clear-eyed, independent, composed, and strong,

And may you live as the person you most wish to become.
